the thames

During the July heatwaves in the United Kingdom, temperatures surpassed 40C (104F) for the first time. We stood in parts of the Thames river where there would usually be muddy water, yet the land underfoot was dry. This is #ClimateChange in action.

The Thames is water-stressed, lots of rivers are. Observe what has happened to your local rivers. We all need to act on climate change to minimise the effects it has on water and our daily lives.

THE DEAD SEA

The Dead Sea is known for being 10 times saltier than the ocean. It's also known for being the lowest land-based elevation on earth.

Since the 1960s the Dead Sea has lost about a third of its surface area.

And the lake level is dropping 4 feet yearly due to #ClimateChange.

Communities and farmers in the area rely on it for their sustainability. But the Dead Sea is drying up and time is running out.

No more soft language the time for action is now.

THANK YOU

On the many days when I think I can’t do this, someone from my team, my family here, jumps out of the support car or comes by on the bike and says, “you’ve got this”.

It makes a huge difference, and in a bigger sense, that’s what happens in life too. In the moments when you falter. The moments you think everything is turning against you, the moments when you doubt yourself. All it takes is someone else, a stranger, a member of your family, a friend, a companion or a work colleague, someone to say, “You’ve got this. We believe in you. I believe in you.”

Because when you don’t believe in yourself, sometimes it takes that to keep you going.

Thank YOU for believing in me.

THIS IS HARD

This is really, really hard.

Running 200 marathons is far from easy. In between this, I'm attending conferences and speaking to policymakers, NGO's and global leaders about bringing water to the top of the agenda... it's hard.

When it feels really tough, like today, I remind myself that I've made a commitment, and I WILL see this through. No matter how hard it gets, I can do hard things, WE can do hard things.

I WILL finish strong on the steps of the UN building in NYC in March at the #UNConference 2023.

#RunBlue Marathon 119 out of 200 in Jordan.

LOIRE RIVER

The #RunBlue Team visited the last wild river in Europe, the Loire River in France.

Roberto Epple, president of the European Rivers Network, explains how the “Keep the Loire Wild Campaign” promoted better water management. Government, engineers and organisations worked together to ensure the Loire River Basin and its biodiversity continues to flourish and flow.

“We cannot forget that we can act and we can change a lot. It’s not hopeless. There’s a chance, especially if we give the possibilities to nature to recover itself, together with us, big changes are possible.” - Roberto Epple.

Change is possible if we take collective action.
