Legal Intern

Overview

Thirst and #RunningDry are looking for a Legal Intern to assist with our growing team. We’re looking for someone who is detail oriented and can help us work through a large number of detailed documents and contracts. You’ll report directly to Mina Guli, Mina’s Chief of Staff and the Thirst Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft and review legal contracts and documentation for the procurement of services in media, local logistics and others
  • Support the procurement of legal approvals, visas and other items necessary to support the #RunningDry campaign.
  • Ensure legal documentation is properly managed and stored appropriately
  • Liaise with our pro bono legal advisors

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Legal or paralegal degree or studying for a similar degree.
  • Native English communications skills (additional language skills are an asset)

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Is either studying for a legal or paralegal degree or has a degree and is looking for a part time, stimulating position where they can make a real difference with their work.

Communications Intern

Communications Intern

Overview

Thirst and #RunningDry are looking for a Communications Intern who can tell stories across a number of different platforms and channels. You’re a gifted writer with great ideas, a pro at social media and a keen observer of worldwide trends. You’ll report to the Media Manager, but because we’re a small non-profit, you’ll be working with most of the Thirst team.

Responsibilities:

  • Create content for Thirst and #RunningDry digital and social media channels
  • Assist with media requests
  • Write press materials, including press kits and press releases
  • Assist with media and PR event planning

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A degree (or studying for a degree) in journalism or communications
  • Previous journalism or documentary film experience
  • Native English communications skills (additional language skills are an asset)

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Understands the value of being part of a high profile, world changing campaign.
  • Has some form of journalism experience
  • Has a demonstrated ability to communicate across multiple platforms and knows how to communicate to build communities.

Sponsorship Intern

Sponsorship Intern

Overview

Thirst and #RunningDry are looking for a Sponsorship Intern, who can help us deliver on our fundraising goals. You’ll need to wear many hats as you work with partners in #RunningDry’s run locations around the world. We’re looking for someone who is organized, proactive and a great communicator. With sponsorship activation a part of your role, you’ll need to be creative and organized. You’ll report to the Campaign Director, and work closely with Mina Guli, Mina’s Chief of Staff and the Thirst Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct prospective sponsorship research
  • Help execute current partnerships and develop new partnerships, both financial and in-kind
  • Draft correspondence related to our partnership programs
  • Coordinate sponsor events 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in sponsorship, fundraising or development
  • Previous experience in a non-profit organization
  • Native English communications skills (additional language skills are an asset)

Research and Story Intern

Overview:

Thirst and #RunningDry are looking for a Research and Story Intern who is passionate about the global water crisis and the stories of both those affected by it and by those who are helping solve it. You have an eye for a good story and you know how to help us find the right people to tell it. You are organized, research-driven and a great communicator. You’ll report to the Campaign Director, but work closely with Mina Guli, Mina’s Chief of Staff, the film crew and our Media Manager. 

Responsibilities:

  • Research and propose story ideas for the #RunningDry countries we will run through
  • Provide data, fact sheets and interviewee profiles
  • Coordinate with the film crew and logistics team to arrange interviews
  • Draft story summaries and executive briefing books
  • Provide supporting research to the Media Manager and/or Media Intern for blogs and other material for the website.
  • Work closely with the Campaign Director to help shape the overall direction and delivery of the campaign.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest in water, particularly in invisible/embedded water and the issues associated with it
  • A degree (or studying for a degree) in water-related issues, or a degree (or studying for a degree) in journalism or communications
  • Previous journalism or documentary film experience
  •  Native English communications skills (additional language skills are an asset)

  • Has a background in water, particularly in either embedded water, cross boundary water management issues or other non-sanitation sectors of the water crisis.

Logistics Intern

Logistics Intern

Overview:  Thirst and #RunningDry are looking for a Logistics Intern that lives and breathes travel planning, on-the-ground logistics planning and loves nothing more than finding the perfect flight or the ideal running route that tells an important story, while fitting into our aggressive schedule…. all on a budget. You’ll need to be organized and detail-oriented, but also able to solve problems on a campaign-wide basis. You’ll report to the Logistics Manager, who is based in New York, but as we are a small team you’ll be working closely with the whole Thirst team.

Responsibilities: Help organize our country by country events and logistics, including supporting the Logistics Manager in organizing:

  • Travel (international and local ground)
  • Run Routes (in consultation with local experts, Film Crew, local logistics teams)
  • Local Logistics and ground support including vehicles
  • Accommodation (mix of camping/Airbnb/other low-cost options)
  • Press events
  • Mass run activities
  • Roundtable corporate events
  • Supporting the logs
  • Gear and equipment
  • Shipping

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in event management or demonstrated ability to plan in complex environments, often across cultures or countries
  • A previous internship in a non-profit organization
  • Native English communications skills (additional language skills are an asset)

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Has significant travel experience including to places that are “off the beaten track” and isn’t afraid to organize trips to these places
  • Has experience in dealing with people across multiple cultures and languages


 

Media Manager

The Media Manager is a new role that will be responsible for planning, developing and implementing marketing strategies, communications and public relations activities, both external and internal to support our rapidly expanding operations – in particular our #RunningDry campaign. In addition, the successful applicant will be responsible for promoting our messaging through the full range of media channels in China and overseas. You will report directly to the CEO and will form part of our senior management team. Together with the CEO, Campaign Director & Logistics Manager, you will ensure all elements of the #RunningDry campaign, events and activities are fully supported with appropriate media and communications to fully leverage our messages.

We are looking for an individual with creative, strategic and analytical skills who has demonstrated experience in dealing with the media and has a commitment to supporting an organization setting out to change the world. You should be passionate about what you do, and able to provide the type of leadership on media, communications and public relations we need to help us build our online and offline community.

As the Media Manager, you should possess extremely strong design, creative, communication and people management skills, and have a demonstrated ability to manage in a fast moving, high pressure, dynamic environment.

The position is available immediately for a period of one year with the intention to renew given the right candidate.

This is an exciting role with the potential for travel.  We are looking for a dynamic person with a demonstrated desire to make a difference. Location is flexible, and given the nature of the media, evening and weekend work will be required. The role requires the candidate to have native English communication skills.

Roles and Responsibilities

1) Media

  • Working with the Campaign Director, develop and implement media strategies that support the objectives of the #RunningDry campaign.
  • Develop and distribute releases to the full range of media outlets including national, and local online and offline TV, radio and print and proactively seek media opportunities that support the organization’s and campaign objectives.
  • Evaluate and report on the reach and impact of media activities through regular media monitoring.
  • Research and author articles for the Thirst website, Mina’s website and other social media sites, blogs, newsletters and other media outlets to help promote and support the goals and objectives of #RunningDry campaign
  • Create and maintain media contact lists, liaise with individuals and media outlets and develop and manage relationships with key media partners including outlets, PR agencies and contractors.
  • Regularly pitch editorial features and news about the #RunningDry campaign

2) Advertising

  • Develop, maintain and implement a strategy regarding the acquisition of media, and placement of any audio visual or other advertisements
  • Assess and report on the reach and success of any advertising, including dynamically managing such placement.
  • Coordinate the development, production and distribution of audio-visual materials (TV & Radio CSAs), web-based advertisements and other broadcast media materials.
  • Develop and manage relationships with potential advertising providers.

3) Marketing and Communications

  • Liaise with existing celebrity spokespeople (or their managers) and assist in the recruitment of new talent.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive marketing, communications and public relations campaign that support #RunningDry.
  • Ensure all #RunningDry marketing, communications and public relations internally and externally are properly coordinated and managed.
  • Develop and implement a Branding and Messaging document that articulates #RunningDry desired image and position, and ensure that these are consistently implemented throughout the campaign and communicated appropriately internally and externally.
  • Supervise the direction, design, production and distribution of all #RunningDry publications to ensure consistency with the Branding and Messaging document and across the #RunningDry campaign.
  • Coordinate the appearance of all #RunningDry print and electronic materials such as letterhead, use of logo, brochures etc.
  • Support campaign and organization spokespeople through the development of media messaging, briefing notes and act as a media liaison.
  • Ensure appropriate branding and messaging is implemented on site during the #RunningDry expedition.
  • Coordinate with the Campaign Director and Logistics Manager to identify, coordinate and manage any press conferences, group runs, and any “stunts” both in the leadup to and during the #RunningDry campaign.

3) Social Media and Website

  • In consultation with the Campaign Director, oversee the development and running of campaign launch and media sites.
  • Supervise and manage #RunningDry on both the Thirst and Mina’s website, in addition to any other websites developed for specific events and/or campaigns.
  • Create and implement, together with the Campaign Director and advisors, a strategic plan for increasing our community of followers to 1 million
  • In collaboration with the Campaign Director, oversee the development of organizational communications.

4) Budgeting and Management

  • Develop and manage short and long term plans and budgets for marketing/communications/public relations programs and its activities, monitoring and reporting on progress.
  • Identify and manage any third-party relationships with media organisations including agencies, individuals and others supplied by other stakeholders (including sponsors)
  • Manage relationships with the media teams of any sponsors and other stakeholders to ensure uniformity of message and ensure all feedback, concerns & issues are met.

5) Other

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the media team and directly supervise the work of any volunteers and interns working in the team.
  • Any other duties as directed by Management.
