MEDIA LAUNCH: World’s largest refugee camps to receive 400,000 bars of soap

The world’s largest refugee camps in the Cox’s Bazar District in Bangladesh will receive over 400,000 bars of soap thanks to the generosity of the runners and walkers around the world who contributed to the third annual #Sweat4Soap activation.

The 400,000 kilometres run and walked during #Sweat4Soap equated to 400,000 bars of soap for people in need thanks to water heroes around the world. This is the best ever #Sweat4Soap yet, and will, together with Eco-Soap Bank, assist many refugees in Bangladesh.

To ensure the bars of soap reach Cox’s Bazar, the #Sweat4Soap organisers are seeking courier and transport companies to assist them in this vital humanitarian cause.

“We need a partner to ensure the efforts of so many will see that this soap is delivered as soon as possible,” said Mina Guli, water advocate and ultramarathon runner, who is running 200 marathons in a year to raise awareness of the global water crisis

Eco-Soap Bank, WWF and Bayer partnered with #RUNBLUE on the journey, and without them none of this would not have been possible. In the sprawling Cox’s Bazaar camps of some 1.24-million people, a bar of soap could be the difference between life and death.

“This #Sweat4Soap activation is an opportunity for all of us around the world to step up and make a difference,” said Guli. “With every step we change lives. A bar of soap is not just a weapon for hygiene, but a vital tool to give dignity to those who have nowhere left to run to and nowhere left to return to.”

Thirst Foundation chose to partner with Eco-Soap Bank because of their dedication to saving, sanitising and supplying leftover soap from manufacturers for the developing world to use. Their product is not only cost effective and reduces waste, it also provides livelihoods and free education to disadvantaged women.

Ends.
